Dorset Art Weeks open studios starts this saturday, 24th May, and runs to sunday the 8th June.
I am again opening up my studio and garden to the public every day from 10am-5pm.
There are a range of sculptures on show varying in size and materials. The largest, "Horse 1", which is above, is made from steel and stands 2.3 meters high, whereas the smallest is a hawk which is made of a mix of copper and barbed wire. Both of the swans will be found nestled in the garden somewhere and a recently finished commission will be leaping off a bank over your head!
This new sculputre is a pair of larger than life roe bucks mid jump that was commissioned for a very specific situation. The final site is a magnificently landscaped set of 3 terraces cut into a steep chalk hill that not only give this peice a perfect background of grass against which it will show off to full advantage the drawing within the form, but also allows the viewer the chance to have it literally jumping over your head or see it from above twisting away to the left. Sadly I dont have such a simple and dramatic setting in which to display this to best advantage in my garden, so it is at the highest point and on a ramp equaling the final slope so that you can have an idea of the intended impact.
I will be there most week days but not the weekends. My good friend and exhibiting partner from the recent Countryside Exhibition in London, Robert Mileham, will have a select few sculptures in the studio alongside my drawings and paintings and will be there at the weekends to answer questions and guide you round the exhibits.
If anyone would like to meet me for a chat please call me to arrange a time, I will keep the show hanging for another week or so if anyone cannot make it in the next fortnight, so if you would like to come for a visit after the 8th of june please call me to arrange a time.
